KEY AREA
Especially in times of crisis, the value of intercultural contextual knowledge lies in how it helps people better contextualize complex world events and, through the use of psychology, better understand their own experiences. The University of Bern contributed to this in myriad ways in 2023: It explored links between colonialism, migration and climate crisis, addressed the topic of populism in literature, pointed out how the humanities are engaged in the debate about sustainability and revealed why Africa can be considered to be the “laboratory of the future”. A freely accessible, interactive explanatory video also helps people understand widespread mental health disorders such as anxiety and depression in an effort to destigmatize them.
