Mental Health issues: combating shame

Around one in two people in our society suffers from a mental health disorder sometime in their lifetime. The University of Bern has created a new “flashMOOC” – an appealingly animated explanatory video – that is geared toward these people and their relatives.

Viewers accompany three people suffering from anxiety, depression or alcoholism and learn which strategies they have developed to cope with their mental health problems. Since this insightful video is designed to be interactive, viewers can help them make decisions and, in doing so, experience how difficult it can be to find personal solutions – and when professional help is advised. Florence von Gunten, psychologist and research associate at the University of Bern, offers professional insights for each of the stories.

The flashMOOCs produced by the University of Bern provide clear, concise explanations of specialized scientific topics. The systematically interactive nature of these videos makes them both informative and inspiring.
