Dürrenmatt Guest Professor Waberi

The writer Abdourahman Waberi, who was born in 1965 and lives in Paris, worked with students and doctoral students at the Walter Benjamin Kolleg of the Faculty of Humanities as the 19th “Friedrich Dürrenmatt Guest Professor of World Literature” this fall. The subject of his weekly seminar was “Afrofuturism” - an artistic movement that deals with identities, forms of expression and future concepts in the African diaspora.

“The future of our world lies to a large extent on the African continent and in its diaspora,” said Waberi. The future of the French language, for example, will be decided in Africa, as he explained: “Africa, with its young, creative, cosmopolitan populations, challenges us to deal with contexts that change our ideas, concepts and feelings.”
