Distinguished people from politics, administration, business and science discussed a safe energy supply for Switzerland, focusing on renewable energies, energy efficiency and electricity infrastructure at the Swiss Governance Forum 2023.
Focusing on the topic of “Quo vadis energy supply?”, the sixth Swiss Governance Forum (SGF), held by the KPM Center for Public Management of the University of Bern, discussed the most urgent questions and latest developments on how to guarantee the Swiss energy supply. 130 people from politics, administration, business and science took part.
In his opening address, Rector Christian Leumann underscored just how important and socially relevant this topic is currently and raised the question of the contribution of the higher education institutions. In the past, he explained, Swiss higher education institutions in general and the University of Bern in particular played a major role in answering urgent questions in the area of energy and climate research, for example in their participation in reports of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. The future is looking more difficult after Switzerland’s exclusion from the EU research programs, despite the efforts of the federal government to provide their own funding.
